The Willows Fire Department is committed to keeping the community a safe place to live, work, and play. Through proactive enforcement, public outreach, and community partnerships, the Department works to reduce fire risk and prevent the loss of life and property.
Public Education
Public education is an essential service, especially for our youth. The Willows Fire Department has provided fire prevention and public education programs since 1978 and continues to enhance these efforts with new tools, training opportunities, and hands-on learning experiences.
The Department provides:
- Station tours
- School visits
- Community event participation
- Fire safety presentations, including:
Vial of Life Program
The Vial of Life program provides first responders with quick access to critical medical information during an emergency. Participants complete a form listing medical conditions, medications, allergies, and emergency contacts, which is stored in a labeled vial in the refrigerator. This ensures responders can quickly access important information when a person is unable to communicate.
Medication Return Program
The Medication Return Program provides a safe and convenient way for residents to dispose of unused or expired medications. Proper disposal helps prevent accidental poisoning, misuse, and environmental contamination, contributing to overall community health and safety.
Stop the Bleed Training
In 2018, the Department expanded its outreach to include Stop the Bleed, a national awareness campaign that empowers individuals to provide life-saving assistance during bleeding emergencies before professional responders arrive. Training is conducted annually for Willows school staff and Regional Occupational Program (ROP) classes in partnership with Willows High School.
Public education programs are funded entirely through community donations. The Department hosts an annual Pancake Breakfast on the Saturday following National Fire Prevention Week, with all proceeds supporting the fire prevention and public education program.
